Chiky has a degree in French from the University of Cádiz. She has worked as a teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language in various cities in France – Lyon, Rennes and Nantes and has been working at La Janda for the last four years. Chiky is an avid reader of African literature, perhaps due to the fact that Africa, which is just a few kilometres from this southernmost tip of Europe, can be seen from Vejer.
Born and bred in Vejer, although she has lived abroad, she is still in love with her hometown and thinks that Vejer has a special charm, that the people, the streets and the surrounding countryside with its view of the sea, charm all visitors.
Many La Janda students come back each year and many others never leave. Chiky chose to work as a teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language because as well as teaching Spanish she is able to teach about Spanish culture. Students in mixed nationality groups are able to talk of their own experiences and to learn about others and this enriches the lives, not only of the students but of the teachers.
It is very important to her that her students should learn Spanish and about Spain, but also that she, as a teacher, should every day learn something new from her students.
