La Ermita de San Ambrosio
La Ermita de San Ambrosio is an archeological ruin in the natural park of La Breña. An interesting excursion just a short distance from Vejer in outskirts of the village of San Ambrosio. Although the main structure is in ruins it is an interesting monument and one of a rare few examples of a Paleochristian basilica that exist on the Spanish peninsula. The dome shaped structure remains intact and has a wonderful acoustic quality. For many years now white storks have been nesting on one of outer walls which adds to the charm of the place. Worth a visit and a stop on an excursion taking in the wonderful pine forest of La Breña and especially so if it ends with a lunch in the wonderful Venta Luis in San Ambrosio, a traditional village bar famed for its home cooked food.
